Shakespeare in Saarlouis

“How silver-sweet sound lovers` tongues by night, like softest music to attending ears!” - Romeo and Juliet

On the 30th of January, the Leistungskurs English decided to make a trip to Saarlouis. At 5 pm eight students, Mrs Löwenbrück and Mrs Buchwald met up at the restaurant “ Hans im Glück”. After a tasty meal, we walked to the theatre and watched “Romeo and Juliet”.

When we arrived in Saarlouis, we met in front of the "Hans im Glück" restaurant. There we split into two tables, ate burgers and talked about our various plans for the future.

When we arrived at the theatre, the first thing we did was to take a photo together. An actor of the drama group was kind enough to do so. Then we went into the theatre and took our seats. After a few minutes of waiting, an acoustic signal sounded, signalling that the performance was about to start. Looking around the theatre, we could see that the play Romeo and Juliet was very popular because the auditorium was almost completely full. When one of the protagonists of the group stepped onto the stage, silence fell and the performance began.

During the performance it became obvious that the theatre group was very talented. They were 6 actors in total and presented a beautiful version of the play with very few props.

The actor playing Romeo in particular gave a convincing performance as he passionately immersed himself in his role. All in all, we all enjoyed the performance very much and had a great evening together.

In conclusion, our day in Saarlouis was filled with memorable experiences and shared moments of joy. Starting with a delicious meal at the "Hans im Glück" restaurant we enjoyed our burgers and lively conversation about our future plans. Being given the opportunity to observe this linguistically extravagant play written by William Shakespeare was extraordinary. As we sat together, stunned by the performance, it was evident that we were witnessing something truly special. The resonance of Shakespeare's classic made for an unforgettable evening, leaving us with memories to carry forward into the future.
