Lisbon Erasmus+ Mobility Inspires Students to Protect Our Oceans
The third meeting of the Erasmus+ project “Ecology and Sustainability Across Cultures” took place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 22 to 26 September 2026. Five students from grade 10 participated in this mobility, which proved to be an enriching and memorable experience for all involved.
hroughout the week, the participants engaged in a wide range of collaborative and educational activities. The exchange was marked by a strong sense of community, both during the structured programme and in everyday interactions. Students worked together in international groups, shared ideas, and built meaningful connections. The combination of learning and social exchange made the week particularly valuable. Lisbon itself left a strong impression on the group, and participants departed with a sense of gratitude and reluctance.
The central focus of this meeting was the importance of the ocean, its ecological vulnerability, and the responsibility humans have in protecting this essential habitat. In line with the objectives of Erasmus+ projects, the activities aimed to raise awareness of sustainability and promote responsible environmental behaviour .
A key highlight of the programme was the visit to the Oceanário de Lisboa. There, students explored various marine ecosystems and gained insights into the diversity and fragility of ocean life. This visit helped deepen their understanding of environmental challenges and the impact of human activity on marine ecosystems.
In addition, participants carried out fieldwork at the beach, where they observed and analysed the diversity of coastal life forms. Working in international teams, they discussed environmental threats such as pollution and climate change, while also comparing perspectives from different countries. This hands-on approach supported both scientific learning and intercultural exchange, which are central elements of Erasmus+ mobility activities .
Another important component of the programme was a diving crash course. This activity allowed students to experience the underwater environment directly and observe marine life in its natural habitat. It reinforced the importance of respecting and protecting fragile ecosystems and provided a practical dimension to the theoretical knowledge gained during the week.
Beyond the organised activities, informal moments played a crucial role. Living and working together encouraged openness, tolerance, and mutual understanding. Students not only improved their knowledge of environmental issues but also developed important social and intercultural competences.
In conclusion, the mobility in Lisbon successfully combined environmental education with intercultural learning. The experience contributed significantly to the participants’ awareness of sustainability and strengthened their sense of responsibility as European citizens. The week will remain a lasting and meaningful experience for all involved.
